Friends of Clean Lakes is a non-profit, proactive, citizen-led organization dedicated to protecting and improving the natural resources of the Yahara River watershed. It is led by residents from Madison and surrounding communities.
Among the organizations goals:
- To learn more about the health of the lakes, rivers, streams in the Yahara River watershed.
- To educate our neighbors, co-workers and friends about issues that affect the Yahara River watershed.
- To promote engaging and educational programming and activities on water quality, natural habitat and environmental preservation for children and adults.
- To act as stewards for the environmental well-being of the Yahara River watershed wildlife residents of all species.
- To provide centralized leadership in working with the local and state government on all matters that concern the Yahara River watershed.
Volunteer
Put your hands and experience to work for good. Friends of Clean Lakes can use volunteers for activities including lake and water monitoring, water-front clean up, education, outreach and fundraising.
Attend
Bring your friends and family to a Friends of Clean Lakes program or Annual Meeting. Planned activities include World Water Week, Take a Stake in the Lake Days, Paddle & Portage, Aquapalooza, the Clean Lakes Festival, workshops and water education activities for people of all ages.
Practice
Learn what you and your family or business can do to help preserve and improve the Yahara River watershed, as well as the environment around us. Among the many things you might consider: set up a rain barrel, recycle, use lake friendly landscaping or install a rain garden.

For just $35, you can become a member of Friends of Clean Lakes. Your gift is welcome and needed and will go toward protecting the Yahara watershed.
