Schooling For Cleaner Lakes

Save Our Lakes - Clean Lakes Alliance

All 85 fish kits for the Schooling for Cleaner Lakes project have been picked up. Many thanks to all participants!

The Schooling for Cleaner Lakes project is a community-wide art project.  Schooling for Cleaner Lakes was created by the Clean Lakes Alliance (CLA) and American Family Insurance DreamBank to promote awareness of the impacts of water quality on fish in the Yahara River watershed. Kits containing 12 fish cutouts will be decorated by the community, voted on by local judges, transformed into mobiles and displayed on Friday, April 25 at the CLA’s Save Our Lakes Community Breakfast Event at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center, when prizes will be awarded. Some mobiles will be displayed throughout the community after the event.

The Schooling for Cleaner Lakes project was created in response to a recent DreamBank poll that identified “clean lakes” as one of the top dreams of the Madison Community.  The objective of the project is to put a spotlight on the value of our local lakes while also learning about 12 fish species that live in them.  This will increase public awareness of and engagement with our local waters.

The CLA and DreamBank encourage dreamers of all ages to participate in this hands-on, creative project that starts on Monday, March 3, 2014.  Participants are invited to decorate kits with 12 life-sized fish cutouts with originality and whimsy, drawing inspiration from their passions and interests.  After decorated fishes are returned on Friday, April 4, 2014, they will be judged with the following prizes awarded: $250 to the top pre-K to 5th grade 12-fish kit, $250 to the top 6th to 12th grade 12-fish kit and $500 to the top adult community 12-fish kit.
